Lookin’ at U – Mike Siref

picture disc.Quick, think of five things others should know about you.

That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”

Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature.

This week, we feature Mike Siref, volunteer project coordinator for MMI AmeriCorps. Here, in his own words, are some fun facts about Mike:

Mike Siref
  • I grew up around the Aksarben neighborhood and in downtown Omaha. I did a lot of growing up and a lot of goofing off in both places.

  • I wear a gold, Corvette-shaped necklace with diamond headlights out of reverence for my Grandpa Calvin. How many 60-year-old men would drive a Corvette 1,100 miles to see their family in the Midwest?

  • I am related to Jim Bowie, who played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution and died in the Battle of the Alamo. He also was the inventor of the Bowie Knife.

  • I met Kelley Coutts, assistant director of recreational therapy at the Munroe-Meyer Institute, when she had blonde hair. If you ask her, I know she’ll have ammunition on me!

  • My first concert was REO Speedwagon at Fun Plex in 1997. My next concert will be Tom Petty at the Qwest Center next month.

Read UNMC Today next Thursday to see who is featured in the next Lookin’ at U article. Who knows — it could be U.
