Chandra Are, M.D., assistant professor of surgical oncology, will lead a May 13 campus event about this unique entertainment form as part of UNMC’s celebration of Asian-Pacific American Heritage month.

The presentation, which starts at noon in the Durham Research Center Auditorium, is part of the 2010 Diversity Lectures and Cultural Arts Series, which is co-sponsored by UNMC’s Human Resources Department and the Employee Diversity Network (EDN).

“Although a form of entertainment, films in India go far beyond just entertainment in terms of their influence,” Dr. Are said. “These movies helped India gain independence and are one of the major drivers of economy not only in India but in many parts of the world.”

The first 50 participants will receive free lunch.
