UNMC second-year medical student Theresa Hahn attended American Medical Student Association (AMSA) national meeting in Oregon in December thanks to the help of the College of Medicine Alumni Association.
The three-day national conference took place at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland and was highlighted by workshops, keynote speakers, a residency fair and mentoring.

“Not only was I able to meet like-minded medical students, but also, I was able to meet doctors from other schools to further expand my medical school experience, such as Dr. Anderson, who is quite passionate about teaching medical students at OHSU,” Hahn said.
Using information she learned at the conference, Hahn and fellow second-year medical student Nancy Hong started a new “Buddies Program” at UNMC that pairs medical students with chronically ill children. They used a local project grant sponsored by AMSA to start the program.
“Without attending conferences like this I would have no known about such great grants that support medical student interests,” Hahn said.
