The Omaha Science Cafe was recently recognized with a local public relations award for advancing the public’s understanding of science.
The Science Cafe received a Communications Tactics award in the category of Public Service Programs, which provide and advance the public’s understanding of a societal issue, problem, concern or cause. The award was presented during an annual awards ceremony for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Nebraska Chapter.
Begun in February 2009 the Science Cafes are part of an effort by the Public Education Workgroup, which includes UNMC, BioNebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures, to increase the population’s science literacy.
Along with the award, the Omaha Science Cafe Education Workgroup Committee was selected to present a breakout session at the 2010 Young Professionals Summit, which will be held on March 4 in Omaha.
