The show was taped at Verizon Center in Washington on Nov. 16 in front of a live audience, 85 percent of whom were cancer survivors.

A Thanksgiving Day television special on FOX titled “Kaleidoscope” will include two commercials featuring the UNMC lymphoma program.

The 90-minute special starts around 3 p.m., after the Thanksgiving Day football telecast and will feature cancer survivors and Olympic figure skaters Scott Hamilton and Dorothy Hamill, as well as music from Olivia Newton-John and David Foster.

“Kaleidoscope” was developed by Edge Health, a multi-media communications company. The company’s CEO, Mike Burg, has been treated for Hodgkin’s disease at UNMC and its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center. Burg’s production company visited UNMC within the past week to produce the two commercials.

“We are thrilled that Mike chose to recognize the care he received here at the med center,” said Julie Vose, M.D., chief of the UNMC section of oncology/hematology. “This is a terrific tribute for our program and all of the people here who provide extraordinary patient care and conduct life-saving research.”
