Dr. Benson shares health reform insights with Aging Interest Group

As John Benson, M.D., looks into the future, he sees plenty of jobs for health professionals, an intact Medicare system and an increased emphasis on credentials for health care workers.

That was his message at a recent lunch session hosted by the interdisciplinary Aging Interest Group — which is composed of students from all UNMC colleges and focuses on health care issues for the elderly.

More than 80 students and faculty attended the seminar, during which Dr. Benson discussed health care reform and how it may affect the elderly. Sean McGuire, a consultant who helps Dr. Benson and other UNMC officials track health care reform legislation, also spoke at the seminar.

“The AIG is appreciative of Dr. Benson and Mr. McGuire for their presentation on this very timely and important issue,” said Ed Vandenberg, M.D., associate professor of geriatrics who serves as faculty adviser to the Aging Interest Group. “The students who worked hard to put this meeting together also should be commended.”
