Lab funding topic of today’s Innovation Week seminar

Paula Turpen, Ph.D., UNMC’s director of research resources; Mark Bowen, director of government relations; and Mark Carlson, M.D., associate professor of surgery, will participate in a panel discussion on lab funding today as part of UNeMed’s Innovation Week activities.

The seminar starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Durham Research Center, Room 1004. Light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Turpen will provide an overview of the campus resources available to researchers, including:

• Internal funding opportunities;
  
• Research classifieds and tips;
  
• The research interest survey; and
  
• The funding opportunity newsletter.

Bowen will provide an overview of the federal earmark process for research projects and discuss efforts to organize collaborations among researchers to respond to federal, broad-area announcement research opportunities with the Department of Defense (DoD).

Dr. Carlson will speak about the research priorities that the Department of Defense currently has in place, and the mechanisms available to obtain funds that the DoD provides for these priorities.
