There are 2,500 new reasons to win the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ award.

Employees who receive the award in the future will receive financial support of up to $2,500 for career development opportunities such as attendance at professional conferences, training and development programs, and in some cases, college tuition.

“The Gold ‘U’ recognizes those employees who go above and beyond to help UNMC in its mission,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. “With this new award, we want to show these employees that we value them and their careers as much as we do their contributions to the medical center.”

The Gold ‘U’ is given six times a year to employees who consistently deliver outstanding performance and service to UNMC.

Recipients of the Gold ‘U’ are honored at a breakfast with Dr. Maurer, and in addition to the new career development award, they receive an art glass paperweight (hand-blown by Kliszewski Glass), an invitation to the UNMC Annual Service Award Dinner, a Gold ‘U’ pin and frame, a Gold ‘U’ certificate and a $100 cash award.

Gold ‘U’ recipients also are recognized at a Board of Regents meeting, where they receive the Board of Regents “Kudos” certificate for outstanding service to the university.

The new career development award may be used for the following:

  • Registration/tuition expenses for conferences, seminars, or classes that are job related;
  • Travel expenses to approved training/conference location, consistent with applicable UNMC policy;
  • Financial support for job or career-related training/development;
  • Training or coursework leading to certification in the employee’s field of work;
  • Augmenting the employee scholarship program (courses must be job related) within the parameters of University of Nebraska policy;
  • Pay for tuition at a college outside the University of Nebraska system as long as courses are job related;
  • Pay for coursework/training or other programs taken online as long as courses are job related; and
  • Cost associated with required learning materials for approved training, classes/conferences, consistent with applicable UNMC policy.

The career development award will first be given to the next winner of the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ award.
