UNMC Physicians has announced Dennis Bierle as its new chief operating officer (COO). As COO, Bierle is responsible for all aspects of the clinic operations of UNMC Physicians.

“Dennis has a diverse executive background in healthcare,” Chief Administrative Officer Cory Shaw said. “In addition to his most recent role as vice president of the Sanford Clinic in Sioux Falls (S.D.), he has held leadership positions in the payer, occupational medicine and rehabilitation segments of the health care industry.”

UNMC Physicians’ high standard of patient care, education and extensive research is what Bierle said attracted him to the position.

“When I applied for this position, I was looking for a number of things,” Bierle said. “I was looking for an opportunity to advance my career while working somewhere I felt does amazing things; UNMC Physicians has done a lot of incredible things.”

According to Bierle, satisfied employees translate to high quality, highly satisfying experiences for patients.

“I’m convinced that Dennis will help accelerate our efforts to establish UNMC Physicians as both an employer and health care provider of choice in our region,” Shaw said. “Dennis made it clear that he believes the most effective use of his time will be listening first-hand to the thoughts, ideas and achievements of our staff. Employees can expect to see Dennis regularly in the clinic interacting with our physicians, staff and patients.”

Bierle said he is looking forward to meeting as many people as possible and delving into the operations of UNMC Physicians.

“I’m very excited about tying education with the delivery of health care,” Bierle said. “UNMC Physicians’ doctors have such a passion to help out as much as possible and that is something I am glad to be a part of.”

Outside of work, Bierle and his wife, JoAnn, enjoy attending as many of their children’s activities as possible. They have been married for 23 years and have five children, three attending college and two in high school. Bierle said his family is very sports oriented and all of his children have played sports in high school.

“My family is excited for the move,” Bierle said. “I’ve found that our kids have made the transition faster than my wife and I even. We are looking forward to being here in Omaha — we have always gravitated toward it.”
