Wellness Wednesday – rollin’ with Dr. Rodenhorst-Weber

picture disc.When we started Wellness Wednesday — we said we would find out what UNMC employees do to stay well.

Today do we head to the western edge of UNMC’s 500-mile campus to catch up with Kim Rodenhorst-Weber, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Scottsbluff division of the UNMC College of Nursing.

Last month in Napa Valley, Calif., Dr. Rodenhorst-Weber competed in her first inline skating marathon. The marathon allowed her to roll through some of California’s fabled wineries and grape farms.

Dr. Rodenhorst-Weber started skating more than 20 years ago to get into shape after she had children.

“I grew to love it so I continued,” she said. “It was something that the children and I could do together at times.”

Skating, she said, is fun and a great way to stay fit.

She skates between 30 and 50 miles each week.

Dr. Rodenhorst-Weber usually trains near Lake Minatare and Monument Valley Pathways near Scottsbluff.

During a typical training session she will shift between fast skating, slow skating and skating alternately on one leg.

“I do a variety of moves to keep things interesting,” she said.
