Dr. Vose is the Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professor and chief of the section of hematology/oncology at UNMC.
“Dr. Vose brings a high level of expertise and credibility to the board,” said Pattie Gorham, executive director for the Nebraska Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “She is well-respected throughout Nebraska’s medical community and recognized nationally for her educational and professional background in diagnosing and treating blood cancers. She will contribute significantly to assisting the local chapter secure resources and support for chapter and activities.”
In the role, Dr. Vose also will help the chapter reach out to health care and public policy leaders, and provide leadership, guidance and support in the society’s goals. The society ensures patients receive optimal health care, psycho-social support and support for state-of-the-art research initiatives.
“I felt it was important to assist in the overall mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and to get involved to help raise awareness in the Omaha community of the opportunities at UNMC for education, patient care and research in these diseases,” Dr. Vose said. “The society has been supportive of research at UNMC and I believe it is important for the physicians and scientists at UNMC to volunteer their time to assist the society in the national and local efforts.”
Dr. Vose’s work is focused on translational research to improve treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Over the past decade, she has developed a program to evaluate new therapies.
She also has received millions of dollars in research funding and has published widely about non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma therapy and transplantation research. This work has added substantially to the research and knowledge base for the therapy of lymphoma.
Dr. Vose received her doctor of medicine degree from UNMC in 1984. She completed her residency in internal medicine in 1987 also at UNMC, where she served as chief resident as well.
She completed a UNMC fellowship in hematology/oncology in 1990. In 1999, she completed a Lymphoma Vaccine Therapy sabbatical at Stanford University in the lab of Ronald Levy, M.D.
The Nebraska Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society serves patients throughout Nebraska and western Iowa who are touched by leukemia, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and myeloma. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.
