New Yorkers find there is no place like Nebraska

Former New York City policeman Michael Manley recently received a kidney transplant at UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center.

Concerned that Nebraska lacked the technology or the know how found in the Big Apple, Manley initially was skeptical about coming to Nebraska to receive his kidney, which was donated by his sister-in-law, Roseann Mastio of Bellevue.

His fears were eased almost immediately upon arriving on the UNMC campus. And as the process of the transplant and subsequent recovery has progressed, Manley and his family have become increasingly impressed by what’s going on at the medical center.
