ENT instructor receives prestigious fellowship match

Alex Bien, M.D.

Alex Bien, M.D., an instructor in UNMC’s Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, has received a fellowship match at the prestigious House Ear Institute in Los Angeles.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Bien with a prestigious organization,” said Donald Leopold, M.D., chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. “The House Ear Institute is the place to go for neurotology, skull-based surgery and cochlear implants.”

Dr. Bien completed his post-degree training last year as chief resident in UNMC’s Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine graduate also completed a UNMC internship in general surgery in 2003-2003.

“The institute awards only two fellowships per year so we’re pleased Dr. Bien was selected,” Dr. Leopold said.

Dr. Bien will begin his two-year fellowship in June 2008.
