Weekend parade to celebrate Midtown diversity

UNMC employees are invited to celebrate the diversity of Midtown Omaha during this weekend’s parade, which also marks the centennial of Saint Cecilia Cathedral.

UNMC employees, students, their spouses, families and friends are invited to join others from midtown Omaha’s businesses, churches and neighborhoods to march in Saturday’s 3 p.m. parade.

UNMC participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, red and white, if possible, or vintage clothing. Line-up will be at 2 p.m. in the eighth division of the parade (look for signs indicating the eighth division) in the Assembly Lot on 34th and Dodge streets.

Parking for parade participants is available in Mutual of Omaha’s western most parking lot (use 36th Street, from either Farnam or Dodge streets). Shuttle buses will return marchers to their cars between 4:30 and 7 p.m.

The parade route spans 10 blocks from 35th and Farnam to 40th and Burt. It ends at Saint Cecilia Cathedral. A ceremony including presentations from Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey and Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy will follow the parade. Afterwards, participants can enjoy an ethnic food celebration from 4:30 to 11 p.m.

RSVP to woneill@unmc.edu so we can have a count of participants.
