Dave Wallace memorial set for Feb. 25

picture disc.David Wallace, retired campus architect with UNMC’s Facilities Management and Planning, died Jan. 29. He was 83.

A celebration of his life is planned Saturday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at the
DC Centre, 11830 Stonegate Circle (between Blondo and Maple on 120th Street).

Wallace retired from UNMC in 1992 after spending nearly 20 years as an architect on campus.

“He was a good manager of our department,” said Don Dickmeyer, FMP project manager.

Wallace was involved in the design and construction of such buildings as the College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, UMA Building and the Durham Outpatient Center. After retirement, he continued to visit campus as a consultant, Dickmeyer said.

“UNMC was an extended family to Dave,” said his stepdaughter, Leslie Gunning, program associate in UNMC’s Center for Continuing Education, noting that he chose to donate his body to the UNMC College of Medicine “to give back to the place he loved so much.

“He was a mentor to many in Facilities Management and Planning,” she said. “He never thought of going any place but the Med Center during his long battle with illness because the level of care was so phenomenal.”

Wallace is survived by his wife, Roberta Gunning; former wife, Doris Wallace; daughters, Donna Svendsen, Martha Stephenson, Rebecca Wallace, Wendy Beardsley; stepchildren, John, Paul and Leslie Gunning; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to: Together Inc., 1616 Cass St., Omaha, NE 68102; Habitat for Humanity, 2204 Ames Ave., Omaha, NE 68110; or the Nebraska Humane Society, 8929 Fort St., Omaha, NE 68134.
