Annual golf tournament to benefit UNMC student-run clinics

The sixth annual “SHARING The Green” golf tournament, which benefits three clinics run by University of Nebraska Medical Center students, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Players Club at Deer Creek, 12101 Deer Creek Drive in Omaha.

Metro Health Services Federal Credit Union is the presenting sponsor for the tournament, which will begin at 3 p.m. with a shotgun start. The 9-hole event will be a four-person Texas scramble, with a buffet dinner following play.

“This golf tournament provides needed resources for us to maintain and operate the SHARING Clinics,” said Joe Cheatle, a second-year medical student at UNMC. “These clinics provide high quality, low-cost care to the underserved populations, and they afford students an environment that augments our education at UNMC.”

The SHARING Clinics comprise three student-run clinics in Omaha: the weekly SHARING Clinic (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups); the weekly RESPECT Clinic (Responsible Early STD Prevention, Education & Community Testing); and the monthly GOODLIFE Clinic (Greater Omaha Outreach for Diabetes Lifestyles Impacting Fitness and Education).

The clinics are staffed by medical, physician assistant, pharmacy, nurse practitioner, clinical laboratory science, physical therapy, nutrition, and medical family therapy students under the supervision of UNMC and community health care professionals.

Several sponsorship opportunities are available at the tournament.

  • A SHARING Sponsorship ($2,000, $3,000 or $5,000) includes eight players and dinners, a logo on all publications, recognition during the tournament and at the dinner, and a table at the event to distribute promotional material.

  • A Hole Sponsorship ($1,000) includes four players and dinners, company logo on two holes, distribution of fliers/business cards at the event and recognition during the tournament and at the dinner.

  • Foursomes can play nine holes of golf for $350 and includes dinner. The price for an individual golfer is $90 and includes dinner. Those wishing to attend the buffet dinner and auction may do so for $20.

Money raised at the tournament goes toward the operations of the SHARING Clinics. Costs include purchasing prescriptions, staffing a clinic nurse to provide care continuity, hiring translators, and paying for front-office personnel.
