Walk Jan. 30 for developmental disabilities benefit

Grab your walking shoes and join Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch to support the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute’s “Walk & Roll for Disabilities,” a benefit to raise money to provide recreational and respite services for adults with developmental disabilities.

The event, sponsored by the C. Louis Meyer Foundation, will be held inside Westroads Mall, 102nd Street & West Dodge Road, on Sunday, Jan. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Walkers should park and enter the Mall on the east side of Penneys and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Any medical center employee who registers for the walk is eligible to win a football signed by Crouch. The winner will be announced online in the Friday, Jan. 28 UNMC Today.

Children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families will participate in the walk, some with the assistance of wheelchairs and therapy dogs. Crouch, who is also a former Nebraska Cornhusker quarterback, is the honorary captain for the event. The goal is to raise $100,000.

If you would like to walk in the event, organize a team of walkers, or make a donation, contact Karol Colbert at 559-5771 or kcolbert@unmc.edu.

Walkers are encouraged to register by Jan. 14, but may register anytime, including the day of the event. The cost is $15 per person and includes a T-shirt. A registration booth will be located outside of the Nebraska Café on the third floor of University Tower from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, Friday, Jan. 7, Tuesday, Jan. 11 and Thursday, Jan. 13.
