Nursing students to participate in induction ceremonies

The UNMC College of Nursing will hold induction ceremonies Sunday (Oct. 10) at 2 p.m. (CDT) to recognize 131 new nursing students as they commit to academic integrity and begin assimilating the values and behaviors of the professional nurse.

The ceremony, which will take place simultaneously in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney and Scottsbluff, will reiterate the most important values for the professional nurse and for the profession of nursing: responsibility, trustworthiness, honesty, fairness, and respect of others.

The ceremonies will take place in the following locations:

  • Omaha – UNMC’s new Durham Research Center auditorium (Durham Research Plaza & Emile Street);
  • Lincoln – University of Nebraska Complex Auditorium-Panhandle Station;
  • Kearney – UNK Copeland Hall Auditorium; and
  • Scottsbluff – University of Nebraska Complex Auditorium-Panhandle Station.

The opening procession of students and faculty members will be followed by guest speakers at each location and remarks by Virginia Tilden, D.N.Sc., dean of the UNMC College of Nursing.

Students will recite an oath of professionalism and sign a pledge. Representatives from the UNMC College of Nursing Alumni Association will present each student with the college’s badge, which will be affixed to their uniforms. Students also will be given the pen they used to sign the oath. A reception will follow at each division.
