Orthopaedic residency graduation June 11

A weekend full of activities – including a scientific presentation from the chief of staff at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas — will mark the graduation of four residents from the Creighton/Nebraska Health Foundation Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.

Richard Davis, M.D., Stephen Hansen, M.D., Brian Hasley, M.D., and Lori Reed, M.D., will graduate from the five-year residency program, which is administered at UNMC. They will give their final resident presentations on Friday, June 11, in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

J. Anthony Herring, M.D., the chief of staff at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, will give a presentation on Friday and another on Saturday. His presentation at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday will be followed by several other presentations from faculty. All of the presentations will take place in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

Other activities during the weekend include a golf outing and a banquet.

Dr. Herring has served since 1978 as the chief of staff at. He is a professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and is an active staff member at Children’s Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital and St. Paul Medical Center in Dallas. He is an associate editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He served on the board of directors of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America for nearly ten years and was president of that organization in 1993-1994. He also has served on the Scoliosis Research Society’s board of directors and was chairman of the Instrumentation Committee. Most recently he served as chairman of the Scoliosis Research Society’s Research Coordinating Committee.

Dr. Herring is active in many medical organizations in Texas, nationally and internationally, and is an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has written numerous scientific articles and book chapters. He has lectured in the United States and abroad, and was selected as the Alfred R. Shands, Jr. Lecturer for the 2000 American Orthopaedic Association’s annual meeting.
