Addy replaces Ann Kraft who, after 13 years in public affairs, joined UNMC’s Rural Health Education Network (RHEN) office in January as a project coordinator. Cook comes to UNMC after serving as full-time adviser for the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Greek system since June 2002.
In her new role, Addy will coordinate UNMC commencements, Mini-Medical School, special events and VIP tours.
“Megan brings to this position her many skills, talents and enthusiasm, as well as the experience and solid relationships she has built since she joined the organization,” said Sandy Goetzinger-Comer, director of public affairs at UNMC.
A University of Nebraska at Omaha graduate, Addy joined UNMC in 1998 as an intern in Business Services. The following year she served as a budget assistant in Business Services before joining Parking Services. In June 2000, she was named community relations specialist in public affairs. During her tenure she coordinated campus events; recruited, supervised and trained tour guides; led UNMC’s United Way campaign; coordinated UNMC’s speakers bureau; and served as UNMC’s Adopt-A-School liaison.
A Silver ‘U’ recipient, Addy is excited with her new position. “The medical center is truly an exciting place to work,” she said. “The activity level is extremely high, but that’s how I like it. I appreciated this wonderful opportunity and will do everything I can to represent UNMC well and enhance its stature in the community.”
Cook joined the public affairs staff this month as community relations specialist. He will coordinate campus events and tours; work with UNMC’s volunteer tour guides; serve as a liaison to UNMC’s Adopt-A-School program; and assist with fund-raising activities including United Way.
“Shawn will be a wonderful asset to UNMC and the public affairs department,” Addy said.
As full-time adviser for UNO’s Greek system, Cook counseled and advised all fraternity and sorority governing councils, recruited new members to the Greek community, facilitated training sessions and assisted chapter presidents. He also advised all aspects of Greek Week, a week of community service events, risk management workshops interactive activities and an awards banquet. He formerly served as coordinator of student activities and area hall director at Dana College.
Cook earned his bachelor’s degree in communications/public relations from the University of Southern Colorado. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
