The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners presented its annual Nebraska Nurse Practitioner Advocate Award recently to UNMC pulmonologist Anthony Floreani, M.D.

The award recognizes an advocate for contributions in support of the role of the nurse practitioner, said Polly A. Hulme, Ph.D., assistant professor, family nurse practitioner program, UNMC College of Nursing, and Nebraska representative for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Floreani hired the first nurse practitioner in the pulmonary section of UNMC, and has advocated the hiring of additional nurse practitioners, Dr. Hulme said. He is a highly respected pulmonologist at UNMC, his nominators said.

In addition, Dr. Floreani was cited as the most frequently requested guest speakers at Nebraska Nurse Practitioner conferences, where he has spoken on numerous occasions.

“He is also praised for his collegial relationships with nurse practitioners,” Dr. Hulme said. “He is always willing to consult on patient matters no matter how busy he is.”
