Howard Gendelman, M.D., is known for his cutting-edge research into such neurodegenerative processes as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. But, many may not know he’s also a skilled musician.
On Friday, Dr. Gendelman, professor of pathology and microbiology and director of the Center for Neurovirology and Neurodegenerative Disorders (CNND), played the accordion and keyboards during the fifth annual Swanson Hall Holiday celebration.
Friends and fellow musicians joined him: Dik Weiner on drums and Tuffy Epstein on the clarinet and saxophone. The band plays for local parties, weddings, bar mitzvahs and other special events.
Nell Ingraham of pathology/microbiology provided vocals, along with appearances by her husband, John Ingraham, campus security, and Chris Larson, public affairs.
“It’s extremely important to recognize employees for the work they do throughout the year,” Nell Ingraham said. “This is one opportunity to let them know they’re appreciated.”
Delores Cunningham, internal medicine pulmonary, Theresa Grutel, pathology/microbiology, and Nell Ingraham organized the two-hour event, which included a smorgasbord.
Rubens Pamies, M.D., vice chancellor for academic affairs, and Alexander Kabanov, Ph.D., Dr.Sc., professor of pharmaceutical sciences in the College of Pharmacy, were among those from across campus who attended the celebration.
