The University Medical Associates, the physician group practice of UNMC, invites the public to its free “Winter Health Tune Up,” event Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m., at NHS Clarkson West Medical Center building, 144th and Center streets near the Oak View Mall.
The open house will feature a variety of screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, vision, glaucoma, prostate cancer and hearing screenings. Most of the screenings are free, but there is a minimal charge for some.
Free flu shots will be available for those at high risk of developing complications from the flu (including those over 65 and those who are immunosuppressed, have lung disease and asthma, diabetes, and heart disease). Physical therapists will do grip strength testing and balance testing.
Free massages will be provided by the UNMC Lifestyle Enhancement Center. Children’s activities will include a juggler, face-painting, proper hand washing demonstrations and coloring activities. Children can bring their teddy bears or dolls for free check-ups. Door prizes will be given.
Nutrition information will be available, including visual demonstrations of fat content of certain foods. The Cosmopolitan-UNMC College of Nursing Mobile Nursing Center will provide screenings in its mobile unit.
The event is sponsored by UMA, the physician group practice of 450 UNMC physicians.
