The UNMC College of Dentistry held its second Practice Opportunities Fair Sept. 12. Dental professionals representing 25 different practices set up booths at the college in hopes of interesting senior dental and dental hygiene students in joining them or using their services after graduation.

Students and practitioners alike considered it a successful event.

“We could keep someone very busy,” said David Bowman, D.D.S., who drove 100 miles from Seneca, Kan., to seek an associate or hygienist to join him in a practice, he said, is turning away a lot of new patients. “I was happy to talk to five or six students who asked good questions about the practice. If I talk to one who is a good fit, then the effort to come here was well worth it.”

Also attending was Charles Skoglund, D.D.S., of Norfolk, who assists new graduates in developing practices in rural communities. “There is a potential out there you can’t believe. We want to put graduates into rural areas where they can develop into an integral part of the community.”
