Hackers, ringers, duffers, aces and slicers alike participated in the third annual SHARING Clinic golf tournament, “Docs on the Green,” Monday afternoon at the Omaha Field Club.
In all, 21 four-person teams participated in the event, which raised nearly $9,000 for the SHARING (Student Health Alliance Reaching Indigent Needy Groups) Clinic, a student-run clinic in south Omaha that combines service to underserved populations with an opportunity for students to learn.
“There are so many people to thank who have made this event a success,” said Carrie Beehner, a second-year medical student who chaired the event.
Metro Federal Credit Union and Gaines Pansing & Hogan Law Office were the ultimate sponsors of the event. Several other sponsors contributed raffle prizes and in-kind gifts. 
Golfers played either the front-nine or back-nine at the Field Club in a scramble format. Prizes for first, second and third places were awarded, as were pin prizes on each hole.
Paul Paulman, M.D., a faculty advisor at the SHARING Clinic, told participants that their contributions benefited a nationally recognized clinic, as Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson recognized the clinic last year.
“The clinic serves 16 to 20 patients a night,” Dr. Paulman said. “If those patients needs a medication, they will get it; if they need a service and won’t be able to pay for it, they’ll get that service. … And the students have a hand in everything at the clinic. We advise them, but they really deal with most of the issues on their own of running a clinic.”
