UNMC to launch new radio commercials

Beginning Monday, UNMC will launch a new series of radio commercials. The six radio spots will air on stations in Omaha, Lincoln and 10 cities across the state.

The commercials will feature the following topics and individuals:

  • clinical research on cancer vaccines for lymphoma — Julie Vose, M.D., with comments from patient, Jim Benson of Murray, Ky.;
  • basic research on pancreatic cancer — Tony Hollingsworth, Ph.D.;
  • Medical Technology’s rural training program — student Laura Horner of Minden, Neb.
  • research on diabetes — Jennifer Larsen, M.D.;
  • research in the genetics of reading disabilities and ADHD — Shelley Smith, Ph.D.; and
  • research on rheumatoid arthritis — James O’Dell, M.D., with comments from patient Anne Ivey of Omaha.

Using the theme “The Future is Here,” the six commercials will air during the weeks of Feb. 4, 11 and 18; March 11, 18 and 25; and April 15, 22 and 29.

“We have many great stories to tell about the innovative research and education programs at UNMC,” said Sandy Goetzinger-Comer, director of UNMC’s public affairs. “The radio commercials are part of our ongoing effort to communicate how UNMC is serving the state through innovative research and education programs. We are working very hard to make sure Nebraskans know that we are shaping the future of health care right here at UNMC.”

Radio commercials have been part of UNMC’s communication effort since 1997. Other aspects of UNMC’s communication strategy include highlighting stories in the media, doing presentations and speaking engagements across the state and publicizing its free mini-medical school, which is broadcast across the state each spring and fall.
