Aluminum tab tally near 500,000

UNMC and NHS employees have collected aluminum can tabs for the past two years and are nearly halfway to their goal of saving 1 million tabs for the Omaha Ronald McDonald House.

The Ronald McDonald House recycles the tabs and uses the proceeds to help offset its operating costs. Last year, the organization recycled more than 24 million tabs, which raised more than $8,000.

When UNMC and NHS reach the 1 million mark, the organizations will be welcomed into the House’s “Thanks a Million” Club. So far, 14 organizations, schools and individuals have collected 1 million tabs for the house.

Employees are asked to drop off their tabs at the collection point on the second-floor of the Lied Transplant Center just north of the registration desk. Please put tabs in plastic bags.
