UNMC partners with Hamamatsu University School of Medicine
UNMC graduate, Kosuke Niitsu, PhD, delivered a lecture at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine (Hama-Med) in Japan on Dec. 25, 2024. Dr. Niitsu, an assistant professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Washington Bothell, received his BSN, MSN and PhD degrees from UNMC.
The Hama-Med Faculty of Nursing established a partnership with the UNMC College of Nursing in 2024, and in October, nursing students from Hama-Med visited UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and other Omaha facilities.
Elizabeth Beam, PhD, associate professor at the UNMC College of Nursing and director of global health at UNMC, welcomed Hama-Med undergraduate nursing students. “It was such a pleasure to show the students what health care in the United States looks like while also learning more about one another,” Dr. Beam said. “We have more in common than we sometimes realize.”
During his lecture, Dr. Niitsu shared his experience as an undergraduate nursing student at UNMC and discussed the differences in nursing education between Japan and the United States. “It was a tremendous honor for me to speak at Hama-Med as a UNMC alumnus and talk about my experiences being a nurse in the United States,” Dr. Niitsu said.
