Lot 2 renovation work to resume

Lot 2 parking structure

After a cold weather pause, renovation work will begin again on the Lot 2/Green parking structure that connects to the Durham Outpatient Center.

The following prep work will begin Monday, March 3:

  • Construction equipment will be brought back into the structure.
  • Sections of Lot 2 will be marked with cones to guide traffic.
  • Level B of Lot 50, across the street, will be used as patient parking and valet parking again. Colleagues are asked not to park on this level beginning March 3 and for the duration of the project.
  • Due to the use of a portion of Lot 50, some employees who park in that lot may have to park in Lot 17, if no other parking is available in the lot. Click here for the parking services website to view the employee parking map.

“We will also authorize employees to park in additional employee lots if Lots 50 and 17 are at capacity,” said Tim Faisetty, manager, UNMC Parking/Transportation Services. “We know that this will pose challenges to some, and we encourage them to call or email us so we can help them find solutions that work. We thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding during this construction.”

With questions about parking during this renovation work, contact UNMC Parking Services at 402-559-8580 or email parking services.

Construction work in Lot 2 starts again on Monday, March 10.

During this time, the southeast entrance of Lot 2 (the entrance from the DOC circle drive) will be closed from Monday, March 10, through Friday, May 16. In the meantime, signage will direct traffic to enter Lot 2 via its 45th Street entrance/exit.

Throughout this renovation work, attendants will be stationed at all entrances of the lot to guide people, and signage will be in and around the parking structure to help drivers navigate.

Work will be done in a phased approach so the parking structure can continue to be used with an estimated 75% of the parking spaces remaining available.

The Lot 2 project began in May 2024, and its completion deadline was extended due to additional renovations needing to be made to extend the life of the structure. The project is tentatively scheduled to be completed late summer/early fall.
