Andrea Oltman is the new clinical operations coordinator for the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology.
Name: Andrea Oltman
Hometown: Omaha (born and raised)
Title: Clinical operations coordinator
Education and professional experience:
I have a master’s of health care administration degree and over 18 years of clinical experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer in high-risk obstetrics and gynecology. I previously worked at Nebraska Medicine for 23 years, 18 of those years in the Olson Center for Women’s Health. I also own and manage a prenatal imaging center in town that provides elective ultrasound services (early gender reveals and 3D/4D imaging).
Describe your role and responsibilities.
My role as a clinical operations coordinator is to ensure accurate and complete provider coverage for all clinical locations. I handle scheduling inquiries and changes for staff physicians and CRNAs (to include locums).
What drew you to a career in health care?
I knew from an early age that I wanted to go into health care. I have always been passionate about making a positive impact on people’s lives. As a health care professional, I knew I could make that impact by caring for people in need and help improve their well-being.
Why pivot to a more administrative role?
After being in patient care for most of my career, I decided I wanted to find a way to impact the health care system from behind the scenes. My goal is to improve patient care quality by managing operations and optimizing processes for medical providers.
Why UNMC?
UNMC and Nebraska Medicine have always felt like home for me. I left the organization briefly in 2023 after completing my master’s degree and quickly realized that I would someday find my way back.
What aspect of working in an academic environment do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy knowing that even if I am not the one providing the patient care, I am still helping the providers do so. My new role allows me to take tasks off busy anesthesiology providers, allowing them to put more time and energy into caring for patients.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Completing my master’s degree while working full-time, owning/managing a business and attending activities for three school-age children.
What is your life like outside of work?
When I’m not working as clinical operations coordinator at Nebraska Medicine, you can find me managing (or performing ultrasounds) at my prenatal imaging center. When I’m not working, my kids keep me busy with sports and extracurricular activities (volleyball, basketball, soccer, show choir, etc.).
Three things people may not know about me:
- I am in a book club and enjoy reading different genres of books.
- I love sci-fi movies, my most recent favorite was “Dune: Part Two.”
- I enjoy hiking, kayaking and traveling. The most beautiful location I’ve visited to date is Switzerland.
