Black History Month: ‘Pillars of Community and Health Impact’

February marks Black History Month, and the med center has a full schedule of events planned for the campus community, open to all colleagues and students.

See below for events and activities taking place throughout the month.

This week, a Black History Month trivia challenge will be open to med center faculty, staff and students. The challenge will award prizes, donated by the African American Black Alliance employee resource group. Eight people will be chosen at random from among those who answer all the questions correctly.

Feb. 12: Join for games and engagement with the African American Black Alliance employee resource group. RSVP here. The event is in-person at 11 a.m. in private dining rooms ABC, located on the third floor of University Tower. Light refreshments will be served.

Feb. 19: This panel session will discuss understanding and measuring health equity and how it relates to social determinants of health, community engagement and empowerment.

Panelists include:

  • Jasmine Marcelin, MD, associate professor, UNMC Division of Infectious Diseases
  • Andrea Jones, MD, associate professor, UNMC Department of Family Medicine

Join this noon event in person at the Sorrell Center, Room 2014. RSVP here. Lunch will be offered to the first 30 in-person attendees.

Feb. 28: Test music knowledge of artists through the decades. RSVP here. The event is in person at 4 p.m. at the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Community Wellness Collaborative, 2120 N. 29th St., Suite 200, in Omaha. Light refreshments will be served.
