Center for Continuing Education gives back

Fifteen members of the UNMC Center for Continuing Education volunteered last month at the Food Bank for the Heartland.

The group, which included executive director Kerri Gilson, put together 248 boxes filled with 2,232 pounds of bagged oats for the food bank’s use. The center’s leadership team surprised staff with UNMC sweatshirts to wear to the activity.

“After volunteering at the Food Bank for the Heartland, our team felt a deep sense of accomplishment and connection,” Gilson said. “Working together to package 2,232 pounds of food reinforced our commitment to giving back.”

Gilson said the volunteers voted in advance on what nonprofit to support, and the Food Bank of the Heartland was a clear winner.

“This effort was a huge success, and it reminded us of the impact we can make when we come together to support our community,” she said.

Sidewalk closed at 38th and Jackson

A sidewalk remains closed at 38th and Jackson streets due to utility work for the UNMC residence hall project. Due to the cold weather, the completion date of the sidewalk work has been pushed to Friday, Jan. 31.

People should use the posted detour route (see below) while work is being completed.
