Reminder: Register for med center’s Jan. 20 MLK event

Service for others is the focus of the med center’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day program on Monday, Jan. 20.

Hosted by the UNMC Office of Campus Engagement and the Nebraska Medicine Outreach and Belonging Office, the event will be held in person in the Truhlsen Campus Events Center, ground floor, and virtually over zoom.

• Time: Doors open at 11 a.m.; lunch served at 11:30 a.m.; program begins at noon
• Lunch: Free lunch for the first 85 registered, in-person attendees, provided by A Catered Affair

This year’s theme – “Service in Action: Strengthening Communities by Honoring the Legacy of Unity, Hope and Equality” – was chosen to reflect the med center’s commitment to excellent patient care, access and service in the community statewide.

Keynote speaker Christopher McCroy, executive director of 100 Black Men of Omaha Inc., will open the program. McCroy is a proud North Omaha native, passionate leader and community youth advocate.

The fourth annual Unsung Hero Award recipients will be announced during the program. The Unsung Hero Award celebrates UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and Clarkson College colleagues who give back and serve others through volunteerism, service, outreach, mentorship or encouragement, in the workplace or community.

Public parking:

Parking has been arranged for community members in lot 63/62, at the southeast corner of Marcy and 40^th streets. ADA parkers can park in lot 21E, on the northwest corner on 40^th and Leavenworth streets (enter lot from 40^th Street), and Lot 36, on the northwest corner on 41^st and Leavenworth streets (enter lot from 41^st Street). Volunteers will be available to direct people into the building.
