Gold U winner Blusys spreads UNMC’s world-class message

Megan Blusys

Megan Blusys is a creative thinker and storyteller, two skills that serve her well as director of chancellor communications for the UNMC Office of the Chancellor.

Blusys joined UNMC in 2014 as senior manager of communications and media for UNMC Academic Affairs, where she closely collaborated with program directors and developed an impressive portfolio of online and print materials that support and document the growth of such UNMC programs as E-Learning, the Interprofessional Academy of Educators, Graduate Studies and postdoctoral education.

In recognition of her creativity, innovative thinking and strategic focus on effective marketing and communications, Blusys is UNMC’s Kudos winner and Gold U Award recipient for December. She will be honored at the University of Nebraska Board of Regents meeting on Dec. 6.

“Megan is always making insightful suggestions and looking for ways to improve existing processes,” one nominator said, noting how she introduced and learned Power Automate to help improve event registration. “It has been a huge time-saver.”

Blusys said while she feels privileged to have worked on many projects over her 10 years at UNMC, she is most proud of is the impact she’s had on growing the programs within Academic Affairs.

“We recently released the 10-year anniversary report of UNMC Interactive E-Learning, and it was inspiring to see how far we have been able to grow the program,” Blusys said. “Looking back at how our messaging evolved and how we were able to build a strong E-Learning identity that is recognizable across campus is truly something of which I am very proud. The same also applies to the work we have done to establish the Interprofessional Academy of Educators on campus.”

She works closely with her clients to meet and exceed expectations, while prioritizing innovation and distinctive design and style, her nominators said. “Megan is a caring and selfless teammate who effectively translates content in an easy-to-understand way for internal and external audiences.”

“I enjoy the variety of work I get to do, not just the types of projects but with faculty, staff and students across the organization, helping them tell their stories on a broader stage,” Blusys said. “Plus, the way I get to do that varies by medium. I enjoy thinking of new ways to look at a topic or project and coming up with creative ideas that make my clients stand out from everyone else.”

Blusys said she loves working for an institution that actively makes a difference in the world. “UNMC trains the next generation of health care professionals who will go on to save countless lives. Our researchers are solving some of the toughest questions we face in health care,” she said. “By working at UNMC, I am supporting those that do lifesaving work by helping them tell their story to others.”

Blusys said she is honored and humbled to receive the Gold U award.

“I am grateful to be recognized among my outstanding peers and have the opportunity to tell UNMC’s stories to a broader audience,” she said. “I could not do the work that I do alone. It is a true team effort, and I am so thankful for everyone who helps on our projects.”
