The UNMC College of Nursing invited the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard to perform a Living Tribute Ceremony Nov. 8 for longtime UNMC faculty member, registered nurse and beloved educator and mentor Louise LaFramboise, PhD.
Dr. LaFramboise’s fellow nurses, family, friends, colleagues and leaders from UNMC took the opportunity to thank her for her dedication and commitment to the nursing field. Dr. LaFramboise, who retired from nursing in 2023, spent nearly four decades on the faculty of the UNMC College of Nursing.

During the ceremony, the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard, dressed in traditional white uniforms, which includes nursing capes and hats, presented a personalized tribute, including a lit Florence Nightingale lamp symbolizing the light of nursing.
Dean Lepaine Sharp-McHenry, DNP, and University of Nebraska President Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, praised Dr. LaFramboise at the event.
Deb Zobel of the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard, said she hoped Dr. LaFramboise realized her impact on the field.
Dr. LaFramboise’s UNMC nursing career began in 1986. In 2005, she was selected as director of the accelerated program; in 2007, she was competitively selected as director of the baccalaureate program; and in 2020, she was selected after a national search as the assistant dean for the Omaha division.
