Welcome to the latest edition of Graduate Posts. This is our first issue since our former dean for graduate studies, Dele Davies, MD, took on the role of interim chancellor of UNMC. We look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Davies in his new role. Students, faculty and staff, please know that he continues to be invested in your success, and he will always be a supporter of graduate studies. Don’t be surprised to see him around as you always have.
On behalf of our new leadership team, I want to let you know how excited we are to be working with you in these new roles. We will continue Dr. Davies’ commitment to excellence while also listening for new ideas and opportunities. As your new interim dean for graduate studies, it’s been a privilege to welcome our graduate students to another academic year, at our annual matriculation ceremony Aug. 20, and now in writing, here in Graduate Posts.
The matriculation ceremony also saw the debut of one of UNMC Graduate Studies’ new ideas and opportunities: the Derry-Crouse Emerging Leader Awards. These honors recognize those who are already taking on leadership as early-career graduate students. Winners receive a cash prize and will be recognized at our annual matriculation ceremony. For more on these awards and their 2024 winners, please read this story. We encourage all emerging leaders to apply this year.
We hope you also will enjoy a story about this year’s Graduate Student Association leadership, a student spotlight, and a video tour of the student health clinic.
Please stop by our UNMC Graduate Studies office or contact me or other members of leadership with any concerns or questions.
Until next time, thank you for reading Graduate Posts.
