Emergency faculty honored at ACEP scientific assembly

Two members of the UNMC Department of Emergency Medicine recently received awards at the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Scientific Assembly, which was held in Las Vegas from Sept. 29-Oct. 2.

Jason Langenfeld, MD, associate professor, received the National Emergency Medicine Faculty Teaching Award. See video.

This award is given to an outstanding educator who demonstrates superior clinical teaching and recommended for faculty who are more than seven years post-residency.

Wes Zeger, DO

Weston Ross, DO, instructor, received the National Emergency Medicine Excellence in Bedside Teaching Award. See video.

This award is given to an outstanding emergency physician medical educator who demonstrates superior clinical teaching and is regarded by residents, medical students, and graduates as a master clinician educator who has profoundly influenced their clinical practice.

It is recommended for faculty who are 100% clinical and have had longstanding clinical teaching responsibilities within an EM residency and/or medical school.

In addition, Wes Zeger, DO, professor and executive vice chair, was elected chair of the ACEP medical director section at the meeting, while Ross Mathiasen, MD, associate professor and director of athletic medicine for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completed his two-year term as chair of the ACEP sports medicine section. 

“We are tremendously proud of the impact that the UNMC Emergency Medicine faculty members have in their roles caring for patients, educating the next generation of emergency physicians, expanding research and innovation and participating in local, regional and national professional organizations,” said Michael Wadman, MD, chair of the department.
