The Child Health Research Institute and the Munroe-Meyer Institute are hosting a pediatric neuroscience mini-summit to bring together stakeholders in pediatric neurology. It will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at the Maurer Center for Public Health on the UNMC campus.
Raul Chavez-Valdez, MD, associate professor and co-director of the Neuroscience Intensive Care Nursery, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology, Johns Hopkins University, will present the keynote talk, “ApoE Alleles Modulating the Response to Hypoxic-Ischemic Injury During Early Brain Development.”
The summit agenda will include flash talks on Munroe-Meyer Institute features and basic science features of neuroscience.
The MMI flash talk panel will be:
- Karoly Mirnics, MD, PhD, MMI director
- Jenni Blackford, PhD, MMI director of research
- Alice Shillingsburg, PhD, MMI director of the Integrated Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Andrea Baraldi Cunha, PhD, assistant professor in the MMI Department of Physical Therapy
- Rachel Knight, PhD, assistant professor in the MMI Department of Pediatric Feeding Disorders

The basic science flash talk panel will be:

- Mystera Samuelson, PhD, director of the Animal Behavior Core in the UNMC Department of Comparative Medicine
After each flash talk, the event will include longer roundtable discussions open to attendees. Researchers who would like to present during the roundtable are invited to prepare one or two slides in widescreen format and send to this CHRI email by Oct. 1. The event website has additional recommendations for slide content.
The mini-summit will take place in person from 7:30 a.m. to noon., although the keynote talk will be accessible over Zoom at 8 a.m. as a Children’s Nebraska’s grand rounds talk. Registration is open until Oct. 1. Email the Child Health Research Institute for more information.
Ironically, I will be attending the Pediatric Cortical Visual Impairment conference in Pittsburgh that Friday.
Will the conference be recorded for later access?
Hi, Dr. Legge. The Grand Rounds talk will be available through Children’s, but the rest of the event is in-person only and not recorded. Thank you
