Fellow of the month, October 2024

Adam Larsen, DO

Name: Adam Larsen, DO

Medical school you attended/year you graduated: Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, 2019

Fellowship at UNMC: Pediatric cardiology

Program director: Chris Curzon, DO

How long is your training program and how long have you been at UNMC? Three years. I am in my third and final year.

What do you like the most about your training program? There are excellent opportunities for fellow autonomy. I am treated as a colleague by the faculty ā€“ my clinical opinion and perspective is heard and valued.

What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future? Changes in residency requirements may make transition to advanced fellowship more difficult.

List some accomplishments that you are proud of: I have made improvements to our weekly multidisciplinary cardiac care conference that have improved the quality and efficiency of the conference, which hopefully has translated to improved patient care. I presented my contributions in a platform presentation at the Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society meeting in fall of 2024.

Tell us three things about you that others may not know:

  • I ran a marathon and rode a century (100 miles) in medical school ā€“ just missing a mile swim (Iā€™m not a strong swimmer).
  • I like to bake and cook.
  • I speak Russian. I learned while living in Russia for two years doing missionary work.
