Dr. Meyer to lead health care workforce efforts as interim assistant vice chancellor

Kyle Meyer, PhD

Kyle Meyer, PhD, has been named interim assistant vice chancellor for health care workforce education and relations, effective Sept. 16.

He will succeed Nikki Carritt, who has served in this role the past three years and more than eight years in various leadership roles on campus, overseeing campus pathway programs (RHOP, UHOP, KHOP), coordinating the clinical preceptor taskforce and leading the expansion and transition of UNMC colleges to the Douglas A. Kristensen Rural Health Education Complex on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus. She will leave UNMC for a private sector position.

In the interim role, Dr. Meyer, who also serves as dean of the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions, will oversee and expand the team in the Office of Rural Health, ensure continuous leadership to bring the Kearney expansion project to fruition and continue to pursue the expansion and training of preceptors in UNMC’s rural Nebraska communities.

“Nikki and her team have helped UNMC achieve considerable advancements over her tenure,” said Vice Chancellor for External Relations Chris Kratochvil, MD, who made the announcement with UNMC Interim Chancellor Dele Davies, MD. “She will be greatly missed, but our goal is to maintain the positive momentum she has initiated.”

Dr. Davies agreed, saying, “Dr. Meyer is uniquely suited for this role, given his tenure as a senior leader, his background in clinical and preceptor education and his role as one of the original architects of the Health Science Education Complex and UNMC’s expansion to the UNK campus.”

“The work of the Office of Rural Health is vital to UNMC and Nebraska on so many fronts,” Dr. Meyer said. “I am honored by the opportunity to help maintain the upward trajectory and bring some of the exciting initiatives to fruition.”
