UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the second annual InnovatED Symposium, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is hosted by the UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators and UNMC Distance Education.
The symposium will bring together individuals from across the university who are passionate about advancing their teaching approaches and fostering new collaborations with peers. Register to attend.
The event will include a keynote presentation by Deepak Keshwani, PhD, associate professor of biological systems engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During his presentation, Dr. Keshwani will explore what it means to teach well and thrive, not just survive, amid change through intentional adoption of responsive teaching strategies.
“We are thrilled to host this interprofessional event, which serves as a forum for discussing emerging trends in education,” said Brian Boerner, MD, director of UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators. “The success of last year’s inaugural symposium offered attendees fresh ideas to improve their teaching. This year promises to deliver even more actionable strategies.”
Event co-host Analisa McMillan, PhD, director of UNMC Distance Education, agreed. “In this era of advanced teaching methods, the InnovatED Symposium offers educators a platform to collaborate and enhance their expertise. This year, we feature an even greater number of top experts in health professions academia sharing innovative educational techniques.”
Other presentations will cover topics including gamification, mentoring, AI, inclusive learning, microcredentialling and more. View the full schedule of events.
Additionally, the Catalyst for Education Award winner will be announced at the symposium and new Distinguished Educators will be honored. The Catalyst for Education Award recognizes a staff member in an educational support role whose contributions have been integral to furthering the educational mission at UNMC; the Distinguished Educator designation is the highest honor in academy membership and is awarded to a faculty member who consistently demonstrates excellence in teaching and peer mentoring.
The InnovatED Symposium is free for UNMC faculty, staff and students, as well as all Interprofessional Academy of Educator members. There is a registration fee of $50 for non-UNMC individuals; instructions on how to pay the fee will be emailed following registration. Lunch is provided.
