Celebrate the start of the new school year with the #WeAreUNMC BBQ on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the all-campus BBQ from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Center for Healthy Living on the activity courts. (Please note that the event has been moved inside from the Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza.)
Everyone in attendance is encouraged to show their campus spirit by wearing UNMC or Ellie the Lab attire.
Enjoy free food (while supplies last), music and backyard games. This year’s menu items will be a pulled BBQ beef sandwich, veggie burger, pulled Memphis BBQ chicken sandwich and a halal option featuring a chicken and vegetable kabob served over rice. Sides and a drink will be provided.
Volunteers are needed, and positions include event set-up and cleanup, beverage and game stations, giveaway tables and other activities. Shifts vary between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. To volunteer, sign up online.
Each year, the UNMC Office of Sustainability strives to make this event a zero-waste success, ensuring that 90% of the waste generated is diverted from landfills. Due to space and construction around the green space, the planning committee determined the alternate location at the Center for Healthy Living was best suited for this year.
