Midwest Body Donation Program Consortium held at UNMC

The UNMC Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy and the Nebraska Anatomical Board hosted the 2024 Midwest Body Donation Program Consortium on July 19 at UNMC.

The program, which drew 60 in person and virtual attendees, offered presentations that included discussions on biomedical ethics and anatomical donation best practices.

Travis McCumber, PhD, an associate professor in the department and director of the Nebraska Anatomical Board, led the program.

Dr. McCumber said human anatomy constitutes an indispensable part of health science education and research. The use of human body donors to study of human anatomy, he said, is essential to surgical and biomedical advancements.

Said Dr. McCumber, “All members of the health science field who academically benefit from the selfless gift of human body donation are greatly indebted to human body donors for making advancements in health science education and research possible.”
