UNMC community partners offering family fun for summer

Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE

The new school year may be a few weeks away, but UNMC’s community partners still have numerous summer events and activities for families.

This summer, The Durham Museum is hosting “Becoming Jane: The Evolution of Dr. Jane Goodall.” Explore the life and extraordinary work of one of the greatest champions of the natural world in this hands-on multimedia exhibition, which celebrates the discoveries of Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE. Dr. Goodall braved the unknown to give the world a window into humankind’s closest living relatives: chimpanzees.

View iconic photos of Dr. Goodall’s early years and venture on an immersive projection of Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park, where she did her famous behavioral research on chimpanzees. See a life-size hologram of Dr. Goodall, enter a replica of her research tent, learn about the famous chimpanzees of the Gombe Stream and their fascinating behaviors, and view rare artifacts.

The Durham Museum provides free museum admission for UNMC faculty, staff, students and their immediate family with a valid identification badge.

At “Power Up,” being held at the Omaha Children’s Museum, families can explore five practices that can supercharge well-being: Physical activity, emotional health, nutrition, relationships and creative expression. “Power Up” teaches kids that they have the power to create a happy and healthy life. Regular museum admission required for those who are not current members.
