Interim dean’s message: ‘A moment of opportunity’ for all

Kendra Schmid, PhD

I hope this message finds you well and energized as we approach the Fall semester! As you may know, our dean of Graduate Studies, Dele Davies, MD, has taken on the prestigious role of interim chancellor of UNMC. We congratulate him on this significant achievement and are thrilled for the positive impact he will have on our university and community.

With great enthusiasm, I introduce myself as your interim dean of Graduate Studies, and Karen Gould, PhD, as the interim executive associate dean. (Please find a story detailing these appointments later in this edition of Graduate Posts.) I am honored to step into this role and am eager to continue and grow the remarkable work started under Dr. Davies’ leadership.

This is a moment of opportunity and growth for us all. As we transition, my focus remains on enhancing your graduate experience and ensuring you have the tools and support needed to excel. Your success is our top priority, and I, along with Dr. Gould and the Graduate Studies Office, am committed to fostering an environment where innovation, collaboration and academic excellence thrive.

I am excited to hear your ideas, address your concerns and work together to create an even more vibrant and supportive community. Our team is here to assist you every step of the way, so please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions.

Looking forward to meeting each of you and working alongside you to make our community even stronger.

Warm regards,

Kendra Schmid, PhD

Interim Dean of Graduate Studies
