June is Pride Month, and the LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine and others will be holding a Pride on the Green event on the Omaha campus and participating in the Heartland Pride Parade.
Pride on the Green – June 21, 5-8 p.m., Ruth & Bill Scott Student Plaza green space
Faculty, staff, and students are invited to the second annual Pride on the Green. This family-friendly event will feature music, henna, face painting, yard games, photo booths and local community organizations. Parking will be available for all guests in Lot 6.
In case of inclement weather, the event will take place inside Lower Storz.
Heartland Pride Parade – July 13, 8:30 a.m., 16th Street and Capitol Avenue, downtown Omaha
The Heartland Pride Parade will start at 10 a.m. at 16th Street and Capitol Avenue in downtown Omaha. All staff, students and their loved ones are welcome to march with the alliance during the parade. A UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Pride T-shirt is available; the UNMC Bookstore will have pride T-shirts for purchase online or in person.
Anyone wishing to walk with the Nebraska Medicine and UNMC group can meet beforehand. For details, check the UNMC events calendar and search for “pride.” The group will meet at the parade-lineup location for light snacks and a briefing beforehand.
