Munroe-Meyer Guild’s 55th annual Garden Walk set for June 9

The Munroe-Meyer Guild's Garden Walk supports innovative programming and research at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute.

The public is invited to tour seven gardens spread across southwest and west Omaha during the Munroe-Meyer Guild’s 55th annual Garden Walk on June 9.

The event supports innovative programming and research at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 1.

“The Garden Walk has become a premier event in Omaha because of the unique private gardens and the number of people who view them,” said Luann Rabe, president of the Munroe-Meyer Guild. “All of the women who have been involved over the last 55 years have helped to make the Garden Walk outstanding. Most of our featured gardens are created by the homeowners themselves, and they take great pride in their accomplishments.”

Proceeds from the Garden Walk have been used to support projects such as innovative virtual reality therapy for children with cerebral palsy; specialized therapy designed to bolster social skills for children on the autism spectrum; job training programs for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and a partnership with a national organization that provides low-cost mobility devices to toddlers facing mobility challenges.

“We have seen outstanding results in the projects we have funded at MMI with proceeds from the walk, and that is why we gladly host this event each year,” Rabe said.

This year’s gardens are:

  • The Grove, 618 S. 184th St.
  • The Ridges, 1621 S. 186th Circle
  • Pacific Heights, 1417 Peterson Drive
  • Cambridge Estates, 119 S. 167th Circle
  • Elk Creek Crossing, 4303 N. 166th St.
  • Bryn Mawr, 13012 Charles St. and 13018 Charles St.

The family-friendly event will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 9. In past years, the Garden Walk has drawn more than 1,000 spectators to the local gardens.

Tickets can be purchased at Hy-Vee stores, Benson Plant Rescue, Canoyer Garden Center, Indian Creek Nursery, Moore’s Nursery, Mulhall’s Nursery, Inc., and Westlake Ace Hardware at 140th and West Center Road.

Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 when purchased at the gardens on the day of the event. Children under 5 are free. Strollers are not allowed in the gardens.
