New faculty spotlight: Maggie Kuhlmann, MD

Maggie Kuhlmann, MD

Maggie Kuhlmann, MD, is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Name: Maggie Kuhlmann, MD
  • Current positions at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; maternal fetal medicine physician, Nebraska Medicine
  • Hometown: Herman, Nebraska

Education

  • Medical degree, UNMC College of Medicine
  • Residency in obstetrics and gynecology, University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston
  • Fellowship in maternal and fetal medicine, University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston

Professional and medical interests: I have particular interests in maternal critical care, prenatal genetics, fetal therapies and developmental origins of health and disease.

How I fell in love with my specialty: Maternal and fetal medicine is a rewarding specialty. Not only do I get to take part in the care of interesting and complex patients, I am able to guide my patients through some of the best (and worst) moments of their lives. This often leads to strong bonds with my patients, and I love seeing their families grow over time.

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I am a native of rural Nebraska. I find it especially meaningful to take part in my division’s outreach clinics in central and western Nebraska.
  • I lived in Galveston, Texas, for seven years during my residency and fellowship. This was enough time to have a full Gulf Coast experience, including evacuating during Hurricane Harvey with my 18-month-old and 2-week-old daughters. Even though I was very happy to come home to Nebraska, I sometimes miss “island life.”
  • I collect cookbooks. I do actually use them to cook but also appreciate the perspective they give on the people and places that inspire them. Every time I travel, I look for a cookbook as my souvenir.

Clinic location: Olson Center for Women’s Health at Durham Outpatient Center

    Hi Maggie

Nancy TeSelle here. The wife of your HS biology teacher. He would have been proud of you! I thought you would find it interesting that Gene and I collected cookbooks from all the places we traveled also and used them too. They are wonderful memories now, Sincerely, Nancy
