Juan Santamaria, MD, is the keynote speaker at a Latina Red Dress event, which will be hosted in Gering, Nebraska.
The Feb. 10 event offers health education, with a focus on cancer, for Latina women.
Dr. Santamaria is an assistant professor of surgery in the UNMC Division of Surgical Oncology and program director for the Nebraska Breast Health Navigation Program.
His presentation, “Living without Myths and Raising Awareness: Strategies for Preventing and Combating Cancer,” will be presented in Spanish.
The Latina Red Dress event also features a health fair with free screenings and various vendor booths as well as music, a dance performance, a heart healthy lunch and fashion show.
A full health panel is available at a reduced rate for individuals who both choose to participate and have fasted.
The event is hosted by Trina Aguirre, PhD, nurse researcher from the UNMC College of Nursing West Division. Partners include the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center’s Community Outreach & Engagement Office, the UNMC College of Nursing and the Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska. Local sponsors include Platte Valley Companies, Riverstone Bank and J.G. Elliott, among others.
