Donation drive is Friday for pediatric patient unit

As part of De-Stress Week, the UNMC-Omaha campus will host a donation drive for the Nebraska Medicine pediatric patient unit on Friday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at the UNMC Ice Rink.

Those who provide a donation valued at $10 or more (items should be new) will receive a winter hat featuring UNMC’s mascot, Ellie (while supplies last).

“Being a kid in the hospital anytime, but especially during the holidays, to put it simply, stinks,” education services-hospital teacher Lisa Gulseth said. “Having books, games and different activities for our patients to utilize during their stay makes the time go more quickly. To help lower the spread of infection across patients all our books, games and activities are a one-time use. Therefore, we go through items quickly.

“Our department is grateful to the campus community for providing a drive to help us restock these items for our patients.”

A list of preferred donations includes:

  • Board books – any title
  • Games – Connect Four, Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Sorry, Trouble, Monopoly
  • Card Games – UNO, Phase 10, regular playing cards
  • Lego sets – any size
  • Stuffed animals
  • Clear glue
  • Markers – thin or regular
  • Colored pencils
  • 8-10 and 100-300-piece puzzles with kid friendly scenes

Cash donations also will be accepted.

If someone wishes to donate but is unable to drop off a donation during this timeframe, reach out to Kelsey Scroggin.
